Project SEARCH

Project SEARCH
A transition program for students ages 18–21 with intellectual or developmental disabilities. Launched at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in 1996, Project SEARCH now includes 700+ U.S. programs and international sites. The Holmen program is a cooperative partnership between Holmen High School, Emplify (host site), DVR (Division of Vocational Rehabilitation), and Aptiv.
What to Expect
Interns report daily to Emplify (La Crosse)—they are not on campus at HHS. Each day includes ~90 minutes of classroom employability instruction followed by ~5 hours in a host department. With training and accommodations as needed, interns work toward independence using natural supports. Over nine months, interns complete three 10-week rotations across departments and celebrate completion at a program graduation ceremony.
Goal
Develop real employability skills through fully immersive, authentic work experiences—leading to competitive employment after graduation.
