Start College Now & Early College Credit

Start College Now (SCN) & Early College Credit (ECC)

Earn college credit while in high school. Review eligibility and steps below, then meet with your counselor to get started.

Eligibility

Eligible Students:
Any public school student classified as an 11th–12th grader for SCN, and 9th–12th graders for ECC, who is accepted by a post-secondary institution. The combination of high school and college courses must equal a full-time course load.

How to Participate

Start by Planning

Participation requires you to be a responsible, self-starting, independent learner. You must still meet all HHS graduation requirements. Meet with your counselor before starting the SCN/ECC process.

Steps

  1. Inform your counselor / get application: Meet with Mrs. Seipp by Oct 1 (spring courses) or Mar 1 (fall courses) to pick up materials.
  2. Counselor + Parent Meeting: Schedule a joint meeting with your parent/guardian and Mrs. Seipp to complete the SCN/ECC parent–student contract.
  3. Complete Forms: Fill out and sign all required forms. A parent/guardian signature is also required.

Courses & Credit

Choosing Courses: You should have exhausted comparable options at HHS. Work closely with your counselor and Mrs. Seipp to select appropriate classes. You may take up to two courses per semester, not to exceed 18 total college credits during high school.

Receiving College Credit: Credits earned appear on your high school transcript and affect your HHS GPA. Colleges/universities may evaluate and transfer ECC/SCN coursework as college credit at their discretion.

Policies & Responsibilities

  • Withdrawal or Failure: Notify both the post-secondary institution and HHS immediately if you withdraw. Standard HHS procedures apply for withdrawals/failures. If you withdraw after the deadline or fail a course, you are responsible for full tuition costs.
  • Transportation: Students/parents are responsible for transportation to and from the college/university.
